Thesis English Education Study Program, Sarjana Degree (S1), Faculty of Teachers Training and Education Sciences of Bale Bandung University. Advisors: 1) Drs. H. Prawoto S. Purnomo, M.Pd. 2) Rizki Widiastuti, M.Pd. This study aims to find out the translation techniques and the most frequently used ones in translating the picture book of Oliver Twist. The researcher analyzes translation techniques used in Vinay Darbelnett’s theory in translating the picture book of Oliver Twist in English to Indonesian. The source of the data was taken from the chapter 1-7 that has 61 pages containing 200 sentences in English version by Barry Ablett and the chapter 1-7 that has 30 pages containing 200 sentences in Indonesian version by Dono Sunardi. A descriptive qualitative method was used as a conceptual framework for collecting the data and the researcher used a comparative method to analyze the data. The findings obtained from the analyzes show that there are five translation techniques used in the Picture Book of Oliver Twist based on Vinay and Darbelnet (1995) theory, those are: literal translation, modulation, transposition, equivalence, and adaptation. The most frequently used techniques by the translator is combination of Modulation with 111 items (55.5%), followed by Literal with 66 items (33%), Transposition with 11 items (5.5%), Equivalence with 7 items (3.5%), and Adaptation with 5 items (2.5%).
